Buying Your First SLR for the Armature Photographer

Ok, so your little pocket camera isn’t going to just cut it anymore. Now what? I will tell you what. Now the hunt begins"the hunt for the right SLR which you should have bought in the first place! Small digital cameras these days can cost as much as some SLR digital cameras on the market. Buying an SLR, although, is a little bit trickier than the standard “point and shoot” type digital cameras you might be use to.
SLR camera breakdown
When you see something like a lonely tree or a beautiful mountain range, it is often difficult to capture what your eyes see with a small pocket camera. This is where a SLR camera comes in to play. First of all, SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras are not a “point and shoot” type of camera. They are actually a tool to help assist with something which already exists, which is a good eye for art. An SLR camera utilizes an automatic moving mirror system which permits the photographer to see exactly what will be captured by the digital imaging system, as opposed to non-SLR cameras where the view through the viewfinder could be significantly different from what was captured. The SLR will give to you the ability to take extraordinary photographs with its key features like manually controlled lens, multiple pictures at a click of a button, large lens radius, advanced stability system (depends on make and model), and many other features you have already seen in the smaller cameras but on steroids. In a nutshell, you will be able to capture what you see with an SLR.

The trick to buying a good SLR with a small budget
If you are a professional photographer, you will most likely look for something over $1000. But, I would like to reach out to the amateur like myself, to help you avoid the pain of finding a camera worth under a $1000 budget. I remember when I first decided to make a purchase, even if the camera is under $1000; it was still too much for the average person. So, I wanted the best for my money and I looked at various brands such as Sony, Nikon, Canon, Olympus. These are the kings of the camera world. From intensive and painstaking research, I narrowed down a list of differences between these cameras which actually matters to the average user. Let us be realistic. All these cameras have tons of bells and whistles but the $ saving question to ask yourself is “When am I really going to need this feature?” Below is a list of things to look for when making you camera selection. This is a list I have composed over 3 months of research as to what are the important features worth paying for as an armature.

Things to look for

1. Shutter speed.
2. Ability to do auto and manual focus.
3. Rate of images which can be stored by a single click (continuous shooting fps).
4. Types of images it can save RAW, JPEG etc.
5. Optical image stabilizer (OIS). Stabilizer built into lens.
6. Good ISO rages.
7. Can take high speed CF memory card.
8. Red eye reduction mode.
9. Shutter speed.
10. Easy to use menus and physical buttons to use different features of the camera.
11. Battery life.
12. I feel lazy mode. AKA pre-settings which allow my SLR to become a “point and shoot” camera.

Important note

I would like to add that #2 above is a major factor in how much a camera will cost. It can differ by $1K in price if fps is slightly higher comparing two cameras, while all other features are the same. But, this can be controlled by just asking yourself, “When am I really going to need this feature?” Also for #7, there is a difference between using XD, SD and CF. The latter writes data faster due to a parallel connection. Don’t go cheep on the memory because if you have a high speed camera it is only going to take high speed images if it can write them just as fast.

Ok, ok, I know what you are thinking"enough gibberish right? Enough reading lets just get to the point. In the end, my personal choice was an Olympus Evolt E-500. After all, the research indicates that this is one of the best and most affordable cameras on the market I found. The Evolt E-500 has advanced controls and options that can be accessed with minimal effort it is 8 Mega pixels, 25 different shooting modes, Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens (two come in the package), 2.5” LCD view screen, dual media slots (CF and XD), the exclusive TruePic TURBO Image Processor, Supersonic Wave FilterTM the list can go for ever. This is hands down the best camera in the market for the armature photographer.

How Much Laptop Memory Do I Need?

Quite often, I get people asking me "How Much Laptop Ram Do I Need?". My answer always is: "As much as your laptop can handle." And this really is the motto that you should follow when it comes to RAM memory. Fact is that it's always worth it to buy laptop memory. The software applications are just going to get more and more demanding on the hardware and if you want to stay in touch with the latest versions in the long term, then it's investing in notebook ram is surely the way to go.
But if you don't want to break the bank on laptop ram, then you can just upgrade slightly so that you can still cover the applications you use most of the time. Therefore, to determine exactly how much RAM you need, make a list of all the software applications you intend to run and write down their hardware requirements, more specifically, the RAM part. Check what's the recommended amount of RAM need to run them properly and get as much RAM as the most demanding application wants. Let me just point out to you some general categories for RAM. Word, processing, on a barely functional level, requiers 256MB of RAM. General computing and web surfing demands at least 512MB, while for movie watching, gaming, music, multitasking, your laptop should have at least 1GB of RAM. For heavy graphics/gaming, RAM should be in the range of 1GB - 4GB.

With regards to this whole "How Much Laptop Ram Do I Need" questions, it's interesting to know that the new Windows Vista can use external USB memory as RAM, so upgrading is actually not an issue with Vista, as you can buy a 4GB external USB drive, plug in the USB slot of your laptop and let Vista use it as RAM. new memory management technology in Windows Vista, Windows SuperFetch™ helps make the computer consistently responsive to user applications. Most memory management schemes employ a most-recently-used algorithm, in which the content last accessed remains in RAM until it is replaced by something else. Thus, users would find that applications that ran quickly before they left their desk were much less responsive when they returned.

If I was in the position of buying a new laptop, you would get a machine with 1GB of RAM, but it supports two separate modules of 1GB each, so that the total can be upgraded to 2GB, instead of the initial one. For present day applications and operating systems, 1GB is definitely good enough, but after about a year from now, 2GB will be the minimum. It's best to know that you have room for improvement, potential for more RAM.

Search the web using Google in order to find lap top memory. It's easy to find notebook ram online as well as memory notebook ram. To get the most out of your machine, make sure you have installed the maximum possible laptop ram memory, which is the same as memmory ram laptop. RAM laptop is Random Access Memory for laptop computers.

Where Are The Dreamers

When the Tennessee Mountain Man was a young man, there were dream girls. Girls like Liz Taylor, Raquel Welch, Marilyn Monroe, Diana Ross, Nancy Sinatra, Tina Turner and the Vargas girls. Man, we even thought Dale Evans, Annie Oakley, Miss Kitty, Della Street, and the girl next door were hot... probably a hormone thing.

But, there were also dreamers. Dreamers like John Kennedy who had a dream that challenged and inspired a new generation. Dreamers like Martin Luther King, Jr. who had a dream that changed a nation. Bobby Kennedy had a dream. The Gipper had a dream.
Then there were the dream makers... dream makers like school teachers who challenged you to be all you could be, professionals like lawyers and doctors who practiced their skills primarily because they cared for their fellow man often for a pound of butter, a dozen fresh farm eggs, a chicken for the dinner table, or a gallon of fresh churned buttermilk, and there were men of God who spread the Gospel out of love for something other than numbers, pride and money. There were local community leaders who inspired and they actually got out on the street and interacted with their citizens.

The poet Langston Hughes:

"Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow."

Where are the Dr Kildare's that dare challenge one to a noble service bigger than themselves rather than seeking self aggrandizement? Where is America's future? Where are all the dream inspiring TV shows and actual road trips like Route 66? Where are real cars that people can fall in love with? Where are all the road side stands where a child's imagination could be driven for hours without anything being stolen or broken?

Where have all the dreamers gone? Where have the dream makers gone? Why are those who started with nothing but a dream now setting comfortably in their million dollar homes sipping brandy in the evening and ensconced in their ivory towers by day while dreamers disappear from the landscape? Who do they think will inspire a new generation to dream, to dare if they don't? What we have been given, what we have accomplished comes with a price which cannot be abdicated. The dream, the inspiration must be passed to a new generation. They must strive for a new frontier.

Oh, community pride, community love, community care, 4-H Clubs, Boy Scouts, FFA, school plays and cake walks where art thou? The Computerman don't see his grandchildren pursuing any of these things or dreaming about what could be. We have not arrived by a long shot. Where is the next generation and what will it accomplish? Will it add anything worthwhile to God's earth or be self absorbed or be couch potatoes playing with the latest gizmo?

Does your pastor inspire the young people, or is he or she just there to count heads and collect dollars? If it is not the former, it is time for a new pastor. Do the teachers in your schools inspire and motivate students? If not, send them packing. Their grossly extended vacation schedule and short hours be damned. Let them do that for which they are best suited like slinging burgers at the Golden Arches rather than holding back our prodigy. Do civic and political leaders lead? If not, replace them, and the sooner the better for the next generation of dreamers.

Why is hanging in the hood so popular today? Why are gangs and gang bangers so prevalent? Why can't our children dream beyond their current circumstances? We did! We wanted to be Wyatt Earp (at least the TV image), Matt Dillon, The Lawman, Perry Mason, Dr Marcus Welby, M.D., Paladin, Pat Garrett or perhaps even the Reverend Billy Graham or the next Reverend Dr Martin Luther King or a Sister Theresa or maybe Elvis or Ricky Nelson and we enjoyed watching Lassie while wolfing down a big bowl of pop corn or home parched peanuts while we dreamed.

We had to dream before we acted, before we accomplished. Before we had the answers there were the dreams. There was a dream, then there was Rosa Parks. There was a dream, then there was John Glenn!

We dreamed... we dreamed of being... we dreamed of becoming... we dreamed of serving... we dreamed of living... we dreamed of loving... we dreamed of giving... We dreamed.

In the theater of our minds we slipped the surly bonds of earth and dared ponder the possibilities that lay before us.

What happened? Where have all the dreamers gone? Are today's sick, addicted, anorexic pop stars tomorrows future? Where are the dream makers? Who can capture the imagination and propel it forward through the haze of uncertainty and through the unknown into a better brighter tomorrow? Who? Where are the dream makers?! Where are the dreamers?!
