What’s the Best GPS System for Under $200?
The Garmin nuvi 200 sells for about $180, while the Magellan Maestro 3100 sells for about $10 more. Both are good devices. Let’s look at both of them in order.
The nuvi 200 is a basic, but quality GPS device. It comes preloaded with maps of the United States, has millions of Points of Interest (pre-programmed locations like the nearest gas station or Starbucks), and can be used as a digital picture viewer.
The Magellan Maestro 3100 has some features the nuvi 200 does not have. The screen adjusts automatically for daytime and nighttime viewing, for instance. One thing negative about the Maestro as compared with the nuvi 200 is it has a much smaller Points of Interest database.
It was not that long ago that GPS devices with these capabilities would run you $300 or even $400. Prices like for these put GPS units within reach of nearly everyone. That’s great because, once you get your first GPS device you’ll wonder how in the world you ever lived without it.
Imagine never having to argue with your wife or girlfriend about directions. Or, if you’re a woman, suppose you could prove you were right about which way to go without getting your husband to stop at the nearest gas station, which you know he will never do!
There’s more to consider when buying a GPS device than just price. For another $100, you can get a whole range of neat features. If you’re interested in Magellan, you can get AAA Tourbook data and road service directly on your device. If you like Garmins better, then you can get real-time traffic and data (with a subscription) and actually saying the street names, instead of just saying, “turn right at the next light.â€
There are a world of great features to consider when buying your first, or even the next GPS device. For more information, make sure you visit my website where which has all the information you need to make an informed decision.
